“Man-gagment Rings” Come to Breakiron Jewelers

March 30, 2012

The latest trend in the jewelry world is the Man-gagement ring.  It’s just what it sounds like, an engagement ring for men!

This topic was covered recently on the CBS Early Show, afterward the entire anchor group sat discussing their personal opinions after the story.

There are thoughts on both sides of this new concept. Some think the ring is a sign of  ‘ownership’ while others see it as symbol of  promise.  For centuries, women alone have been the recipient of  engagement rings. Have they been a symbol of  ’Stay away, she’s mine’  or a token of love and promise of marriage?  In these days of equal partnership at most levels of marriage, rings for both parties make total sense!

If you’d like to see the film clip from CBS , click here, http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7403764n&tag=mncol;lst;1  It’s quite sweet.

I totally love the answer the gentleman gives in response to the  ‘Four C’s” question near the end . He’s a keeper and Yes , I’d give him a Man-gagement ring, too!

Did you know summer can be hard on your jewelry?

June 5, 2009

Summer has finally arrived in the Erie area. We wish you a wonderful one, along with a few “safety tips” for your precious jewelry pieces.

As we open up our doors after a long winter, there are some important things you should know. Chlorine is found in swimming pools, hot tubs, cleaning agents, cleansers and even some dish soaps.

Chlorine is very harmful to both yellow and white karat gold. Even miniscule amounts can erode the alloys within the gold. This can cause your pieces to become brittle and porous. Prongs are the most vulnerable because of their size. And a brittle prong can break and you could lose a stone.

As a general rule, it is always a good idea to remove all   jewelry before swimming or cleaning. This way you are giving your treasured pieces the care they deserve.

Remember, have fun in the pool, but without your jewelry!

Type to you next month!
